If the pond is in the shade put in Cyclemen, Ferns, Hoya, violets, if it has an overhang you will have more freedom with what you choose. Is it protected against the elements? If so you will even have more choices. If you live in Florida, you hit the Jackpot. Sansevieria is a clean growing plant and it will flower in time. Baby's Tears would work for a ground cover between rocks/ on the ground. If you have some rocks for landscape try Tillandsia and all species of them, they need no soil to grow in and will fill up the cracks and add color. They would love to be near the water pond. They love high humidity.

Lots of them--in fact I've had virtually all they sell at the home center, and I potted them in the plant soil made specifically for water plants. I, like you, suffer from red mud--North Carolina--and I know exactly what you mean. Top off the plants with pea gravel to hold it all down.
