why my drives open in separate windows?

Go to the Tools tab on the top of your screen, click on Options, then click on Tabs. There you will find an option where you can set to open things on the same page or to open things using a new window. Click on your preference and your problem will be fixed. Abracadabra...

Usually explorer opens separate drives, in separate windows. You could turn on Explorers folder view window. Or change your folders options under the Tools menu.
