That's no so silly. You can now configure it to work with any Web hosting service. If you bought the name at http://www.godaddy.com then you can get cheap hosting there.
With some Name Providers, you can get FREE webhosting at a place like http://www.geocities.com and set your Domain Name to AUTOFORWARD to that free websites service. But you will get ADS. It would be best to get a real webhosting service that is CHEAP.
Here are some possibilities:
http://www.ipowerweb.com
http://www.godaddy.com
http://hosting.aplus.net/
http://www.netfirms.com/web-hosting/

It's ok. We all do things like that from time to time. Unlike MOST people tho, you realize what you have done and re trying to make good of it in some way.
You shouldn't have to fear retaliation of others over your actions to get assistance.
You now own a piece of cyber-space real estate. It's like barren land. You can create a blog site, set up an internet store, or create a website with almost any message you wish.
Think about what message or goal you think you'd like to accomplish and go from there. You may try various things before you realize what you have exactly, and that's ok. You will learn...and you will set your sights on something and go for it.
I am not really answering your question, but am taking a supportive role instead. Give the points to someone that can give you better direction than I am giving you, and I wish you the best of luck.
:)

I did the same thing! Two months back, I purchased a domain name thinking it would be really useful, but I have no clue what to do with it. I starred your question so I can read ideas other ppl have.

Money invested in domains is never wasted. You can get it appraised and sell it off to someone else here http://www.nameslot.com
If you want then you can also generate good income from your existing domain names. I would suggest that you read this book if possible http://www.lulu.com/keralpatel

What's the domain for? Is it related to your business or yourself? If you don't promote it, it probably will never be noticed at all. You could start using it for your e-mail, creating an address such as you@yourdomain.com or promote your business through www.yourbusiness.com for example.

Think of the domain as a licence plate, you need to put that on a car (web hosting) to make it useable.

there's plenty of books out there to show you what you need to do in setting up a website. Go to the local library or Barnes and Noble.
Think of something your interested in and let that be the central topic of your website.
