Republicans are no longer the party of Goldwater. They've renounced fiscal conservatism for social conservatism because is the way they can incite their voters. Smaller government isn't possible with the Republicans, they are just like the Democrats in this issue. They're no longer fiscal conservatives and definetely not for smaller government.

If they don't resort to the old Gingrich Republicanism of the 90's they will lose a huge number of supporters.
You must not be aware of the costs of health care. They dwarf the numbers you cite. Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security will bring this country down (along with higher interest rates) in the not-so-distant future. You think it is bad now, just wait until the Dems get in and increase spending even further, raise taxes, and really begin screw things up.
Note: Defense budgets are the cost of doing business in this world.

This administration was given the largest surplus in US economic history and squandered it. The tax cut which 90% of it went to the wealthiest 1% is another indication of how these funds were allocated other than for wars. Now, even if we were to really, seriously wanted to pay off the deficit and balance the budget it would take 20 years to do it. Congratulations GOP and GW Bush, the party and the President for the wealthiest, greedy of the USA.

Small government and fiscal responsibility are ideals that have yet to be attempted by modern day Republicans. Reagan ran an a deficit of about $200 billion despite all of his talk, and despite his city on the hill reputation.

I agree, the party of small goverment has turned spending into the national past time. at least when dems were in charge a few years ago...the country had a blanced budget, and gasp a surplus that was being used to pay on the national debt. now the deficit is rearing its ugly head again and our national debt is increasing trmendsouly.

A lot of the republicans in office today are what we call RINO's. Politicians that say they are conservatives, yet spend and act like big government big spending democrats! The candidates running for the GOP nomination seem to be more like true conservatives; smaller government and less spending!

You ain't seen nothing yet. You must be very young.
Wait until the Socialist Democrats get through with you.
Tax & Spend & Waste & take away Freedom.
That's what Democrats do.
You are too young to know, but you're going to find out, the hard way.
Especially if you have a job.
