Nope because the longer you stay in bed the more you will think about not sleeping. Your best bet is to sit somewhere and read and watch TV or something until you feel tired enough.

no point at all.... i speak from experience... my partner is always telling me to go to bed early when i say that i'm tired.... what he doesn't seem to understand is that although i may be physically tired, my brain is still wide awake. i tend to wait until at least midnight before going to bed, and then i will read in bed until i feel my eyes starting to close..

I used to suffer like that until i started working nights for 18 years. I only sleep soundly when i'm really tired.

Find something exhausting or relaxing to do until you do get tired then just keep your eyes closed. Usually if your not tired you cant help but open your eyes so keep them closed and if it seems like forever you wont know because you cant look at a clock. usually works for me.

Yeah, your body still gets rest. Maybe not your mind, but it is less hard on your body than anything else you would do awake and walking around.

Buy yourself a piece of amethyst and place it under your bed or on the bedside table, its a great aid to sleep believe it or not, it worked for me.
