It's a poem with an audience of one.
Reading this poem makes me feel
like I'm watching my parents go through
their divorce only without the insight
of knowing them. It's way too personal
to be a poem for anyone else to read,
and I doubt this guy will appreciate it
as a poem either!

Pull the strings of my heart,
pull the petals off the flower.
To save myself I’ll play my part,
because my heart is breaking by the hour.
Let’s keep this between you and me,
because I don’t want anyone to know.
Though no one will ever see,
as my tears begin to flow.
This body is aching,
but no one seems to care.
This soul is aching,
something that hardly seems fair.
Hoping these memories won’t fade,
and the words won’t slip away.
But I have been betrayed,
and those days begin to sway.
This love was never meant to be,
so I don’t see why we try.
Won’t you just please hear my plea,
that I never wanted to say good-bye.

Blunt and too the point without being brutal. I wouldn't have called it a poem but that is quibbling. If it's the way it is, then send it. He may not understand, but that's us guys.

I think you could have put a little more effort to it. It's not really detailed and emotional. You should add more.
