Hands down: WPA (Wifi Protected Access).

I personally use WPA-PSK with TKIP

This was the easiest for my set up.

And the latest news is that wep can be cracked in less than a minute now.

Unfortuntately, if you do not have wifi certified equipment or are using older 802.11b ONLY equipment, WPA may not be an option for you.

In such a case, you will have to use WEP. I'd also recommened using a MAC address filter and set your router to some other address than the default (something like 192.168.1.236).

There are other measures... like turning off dhcp on your router and assigning all the info manually on each workstation, but that is a little excessive.

I strongly suggest WPA, using AES encription and a key not less then 10 characters.
WEP is to be used exclusively only when it is the least common denominator between teh different WiFi interfaces. Maybe that on the net you have some old 802.11b, and this is a must for some functioal reason, and does not support more than WEP. This is the only reason to use WEP.
In case that you are not obliged to WEP, please do use WPA, or WPA-2. They are widely available also on not-so-new routers with a simple firmware upgrade. The reliability and security of your WiFi network will be greatly enhanced by this choice.

WPA is the better of the two. WEP can be more easily hacked into. It isn't really likely that if you used WEP that you would be hacked though. WEP is sufficient enough if you just want to keep out your neighbours etc but if you want to be most secure you would use WPA. WPA doesn't work with everything though so if you had problems with it I feel that WEP would suffice unless you had some really sensitive stuff to protect.

WPA is much better than WEP. In an attempt to prove to my dad that WEP isn't that great, I actually cracked it in under 10 minutes right in front of him, but I couldn't do the same for WPA. If someone is REALLY determined, they can still get through a WPA, it will just take forever.

WEP can be circumvented in 3 minutes, WPA is the ONLY choice.
