Cheap man's patent is make a copy with the date...seal them in an envelope and mail them back to yourself and keep them unopened....you put the stamp on the side the envelope closes at angle so when it's stamped it's where if the envelope is opened the stamp will be disturbed.

Then you can talk to people and give them sort of an idea without giving the whole thing and worry about them stealing it. I don't know who you need to talk to...it depends on your ideas.

get the idea on paper and a picture of the item you made and patent it. Look up the patent office on the net and see how to apply an the cost. Usually for a person starting out the cost is prohibitive, but anyway, after you have it patented you then approach people who have money, or get a loan yourself and produce it. Be sure and do a five-year business plan before you start. There's a lot of info on doing this on the net.

there are invention help companies:
check internet
before working with someone check them out (better business bureau on the internet)
library might have some books or info.
e-mail some companies in the invention area (make sure you don't give them the idea without a lawyer and a contract)
see if a lawyer will give you some free council.
