If you are white, racism against you is almost impossible to prove. It does happen, as I have personally experienced, but what could I do? Call the press, or the race relations board? Make a civil claim, saying that I was being victimised due to the colour of my skin, or my ethnic background?
All of the above would be laughed out of any court in the land.
I'm white, British, English, ethnic to the place I live and was born, pay my taxes, live honestly without criminal ways, endeavour to not judge anyone ever regardless of their background.
Yet, increasingly, I feel as if I am in a minority. Oppressed, suppressed, and told what to do and think.
Judge another by your own life, not by the colour of your skin.

I worked against apartheid in Africa and racism in Britain and elsewhere and sadly on here had to report a young black man on here for repeatedly emailing racial hatred to me!
All racism is bad. But - look at Britain and the US. Those of non white races who get on and find reasonable jobs are usually fully accepted and race is little or no problem. Those who do not have employment or only poorly paid jobs suffer badly.
Therefore the real problem in many ways is that poverty maintains many of the racism problems.
The world is changing slowly and we have to be patient but please do recognise that the developing countries are gradually overcoming the problem. It will probably take another hundred years or more before we get anywhere near racial harmony but better a slowly baked cake than a burnt one!!

i think some people are just ignorant when it comes too racism..
also some people just use racism as an excuse...
everyone should try and make effort to learn about other races and cultures...
because wherever in this world you are,you will come across a black,white,asian.person..
also just imagine if the whole world was full of human beings in the same colour skin...then the world would be a boring place!!
hence why the signs of life is through various things,,different skin colours,languages,religions..countries..etc..etc

You have a valid point.
However, the reason we get more upset over whites' racist attitudes toward blacks than at blacks' racist attitudes toward whites is because whites more often have the power to make those racist attitudes stick and sting.
How many CEOs are black?
How many high-ranking politicians are black?
How many cops are black? How many lawyers? How many judges? How many prison guards?
How many bosses, how many executives, how many with the power to hire and fire are black?
How many newspaper editors, TV network executives, and movie producers are black?
Yes, blacks are gaining in many of these areas. However, even if the percentage of blacks in the abovementioned positions were equal to the percentage of blacks in the population, whites would still outnumber blacks in those positions of power.
A mouse may bite a cat, but think of what the cat can do to the mouse. (I'm using these animals as an allegory of socioeconomic and political power, and not as an allegory of personal worth or significance.)

I must disagree with the apparent consensus.
Race provides a natural barrier between groups of people, some of which have incompatible attributes.
As such, racism is a convenient way of limiting aspects of ones life to association with those people most likely to be compatible with oneself.
Racism is therefore to be expected from all races, irrespective of colour.

I was brought up in an Asian community and was the only 'white' person in my year. I was there until I was 6 and I hated it! All the children spoke there own language and bullied me daily so I too get very annoyed when racism is thought of as 'whites against black' as this is totally untrue, racism is rife in all ethnic cultures. I think the 'political' correctness has made things ten times worse, all this silly banning golliwogs and baa baa green sheep, pleeeease!!!

i guess its has to do with the way the minority is portrayed in the media sympathetically or not. And it has to do with the race having leaders (in the case of Blacks: Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton), who will make a big fuss for them.
In my opinion racism isn't that prevelant anymore. Just case someonle makes a joke about a minority doesn't mean their racist. People need to stop taking themselves so seriously.
And by the way I think alot worse then racism is the prejudice fat people or ugly people.
Your gonna go through alot more **** in life when your ugly then when your a minority and attractive.

All racism is wrong and I rarely hear anyone saying one form of racism is okay, while another is not. It all is wrong. However, in America, when one hears racism, they automatically think of racism against Blacks by Whites because of the long history of it in this country. And not just against Blacks either, but the long history of racism against EVERYONE non-White, it has been going on for a long time. Fair? No, but your beef is with those that invented racism (it wasn't a non-White person) , they aren't alive anymore, but their legacy reigns in 2007 and thus why these discussions still continue.

I totally agree with you ..........but how much is actually in the minority and blown up by the media ........my niece and boyfriend went to a friends birthday party last week in Birmingham and they were the only white people there..... they had a brilliant time and were really welcomed so I think majority of people dont have a problem .............just a conspiracy .

MNL and Enlightenedsista....--these ppl have put it the best ! I totally agree with their answers and views. What Enlightenedsista said is so true...all racism is bad...but lets think who invented it (those weren't non-white people)...
and MNL--nice metaphore. This is reality we live in.
