The expression in philosophy would be the "feel of truth". Unfortunately, what feels right or true is often just social ideology.

Profound is what I call a "lightbulb moment". Profound is when the individual gains insight into themselves or into others. Profound exists when a person who has been struggling with a notion suddenly experiences a moment of clarity and the issues no longer troubles them.

Say something that has never been said.
Say something that has been said but in a new way.
Say something insightful, something meaningful that resonates with people. Describe what other people have been thinking or feeling in just the right way. Make a discovery. Make an observation. Make a statement that is true, wise, eloquent, poetic, radical. Make a statement that stops people in their tracks, something that will stay with them, that they may even want to write down.

Sometimes you have a lightbulb moment when things become clear. If you are able to articulate this to others in a way that they could not express themselves, they will find you profound.

The depth of his/her belly button.

The most profound thoughts have usually been the most simplifying, unifying and easily understood ones.
It has to offer a new perspective on understanding that was previously overlooked, but when explained becomes obvious.
The 'of course, why couldn't I have thought of that!' factor.

Peace

For me, a "profound" thought is one that OPENS DOORS. It is not an absolute, it is a journey. An infinite journey. It awakens, not stifles. It is not "nonsense" theories. It is a lamp, & a hand through a corridor.

Say something truly original that most people cannot comprehend, much less refute. Not so easy as you can see. ... People think any old Joe can philosophize, but Nothing can be further from The Anomalous Truth.

when you read it and say "that's profound", then it is profound. Not everything is profound to everyone.
(this is when you say....that's profound)

Two things:

First, your soul hears it.

Second, your mind cannot understand it.

True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us....Socrates.

Good luck!
