I will bet that you haven't lost any fish to the cats.
I have 5 cats and 22 fish and none of the cats bother too much with the fish, cats don't like getting their feet wet so are unlikely to try to catch the fish. You could always put a fine net over your pond to keep them out, and also keep plenty of marginal and surface plants for the fish to hide under.

I had the same problem . We found a fish on the grass ,so i bought a net to cover the pond, and haven't had the problem since.

Cats hate strange smells, as others have offered as answered. I use cheap mothballs to keep them from areas where I don't want them - and do have my own. You can get a cheap pack for less than £1, from places like Wilkinson's shops.

You can put them whole or crushed nearby but don't let them get into the water, as they are toxic to animals. Otherwise, there are a couple of plants that you could plant - Rue - Ruta graveolens and the so-called Scaredy Cat plant - Coleus Canina

My/neighbours cats avoid them like the plague.

Don't injure and kill someone's pets - please!

Good luck! Rob

You really can't. Inconsiderate people refuse to confine them. What I do is make sure there are plenty of surface plants for the fish to hide under.

sprinkle vinegar all around the outside of the pond you wont see it but the cats will smell it and steer well clear.

Try an electric fence. You can get small types that run off a battery for containing chickens.

Scatter orange and/or satsuma peel around it - they hate the smell of it.
