A Mormon is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as LDS. Mormon was a prophet and he was the father of angel Moroni. Moroni was the angel that revealed Joseph Smith where were hiden the golden plates that today is the Book of Mormon.

A 'mormon' is a perfectly civil, refined, polite and erstwhile gentle follower of a religious body founded by a young man who was given to visions and revelations from god.
He made claims based on his revelations that remain curiously different than what is considered 'mainstream' christianity, and to this day are accepted as god's revealed word - by mormons.
Of course, whether any of this actually happened at all has always been the subject of debate, lively rhetoric and condemnation from all sides, just like politics.
