fans get called for throwing debris on the ice.
and as a different post stated. florida had rats banned.
and it happens with not just 30 seconds left too.

it still delays the game
just cuz some detroit crack whore decided to throw an oct. on the rink
and all of a sudden the rest of them follow.
great tradition.....
and if it's allowed, then let other teams do it too. let them make their own "traditions"

you know what, loser?
it wouldn't matter. your team won't be able to do squat w/ a power play anyway. you just want other people to feel your misery as you've squandered the last 2 games.
let me guess....you show the telltale signs of being a SJ fan. they sound like whiny losers.
haha
add - some teams already have a tradition. SJ's tradition seems to be losing.....like the last 2 games. they also seem to have a tradition of blowing a lead. wait, there's one more...their fans have a tradition of complaining and whining...looking for excuses.

you small minded moron its been a tradition since the 50s back then you needed 8 wins(2 best of seven playoff series wins) to win the cup because the team consisted of only 6 teams thus the orginal 6 and a octopus not a squid has 8 tentacles or arms each one symbolizing a win. if you get that pissed about this you should have been to the game in 1996 when someone threw a 50 pound octopus on the ice and by the way im not a fan i just admire the unique tradition

The ref's didnt give SJ a penalty when a shark hit the ice. Nor did the Preds get a penalty when catfish were thrown. Or the Oilers when steaks were tossed...etc, etc. etc.. Did the Sharks get "special treatment" when the fan tossed a shark (interesting how one "sneaks" an actual shark into an arena)? Had they gotten a penalty maybe the Wings score on the powerplay and no overtime chance for the Sharks to pull out a victory (although it didnt happen at least the refs decided to give them "special treatment" so they could have a shot at winning). Was it "tradition" that made the shark toss okay? people need to learn to enjoy the game....and its many and rich traditions....instead of getting angry over a loss. The refs shouldnt have allowed the Oil fans to toss steaks, if they werent getting "special treatment" they may not have even gotten to the Cup finals. Sounds ridiculous to me, if the call for penalties is that strong then tossing hats after a hattrick needs to stop.....it takes a lot longer to clean up a 1,000 hats than it does to remove an octopi...shark...catfish...steak...etc...etc...etc.!

Well, other teams have tried in the past to counter the good luck of the octopus, with some success. Edmonton last year threw steak on the ice. You didn't see the refs calling penalties on the Oilers for that.
Do you even remember what it was like when the rule wasn't around, when half a dozen octopi were thrown after every Wings goal? Of course you don't. That's why you're whining about some sea food on the ice at the end of the game.
And to clarify your horrid research skills, the octopi were first thrown by a local merchant in 1952.

So then if the Wings get special treatment so do the Sharks fans??
Last home game in San Jose a Sharks fan threw a REAL shark on the ice.
During the Nashville San Jose series Nashville fans threw catfish on the ice.
Guess what?? No penalties--must have been closet Wings fans and the refs knew it so they didn't call any penalty.
As some one before me said, Edmonton last year threw steaks on the ice. No penalties.
I am so tired of hearing about how the Wings always get special treatment.
You're team lost.
Chin up.
Move on.

And should fans that throw hats onto the ice when a player gets a hat trick draw a two minute penalty for their team as well? I do know that fans who are found with octopi are not allowed in unless they surrender it to Joe Louis staff, but for the ones that get by..I don't know. Sounds like you're just bitter about the game this afternoon. If your team had a tradition I don't think you'd be complaining.

In past years, the refs have given delay of game penalties (2:00 minutes); however with 30 seconds to go in the game and the Wings up by 3 goals, it wasn't going to make a difference.

Because it is the oldest tradition in the league. its not like it is some random garbage it is history. besides what would it matter the wings were up by 3 when the octopi was thrown out with like 2 minutes left. You are just on happy because the sharks lost. i respect that you are angry but don't try to talk crap about a tradition and ***** about not getting penalty that is older then most people on this forum. and cathrine its not like they kill the octopus they buy a dead one from a fish market.

Does that mean SJS should get a 2 min. dumb fan penalty.
The NHL never had a problem with the Wings tradition of throwing octopus till Florida threw their PLASTIC rats in the hundreds on the ice. Go whine yourself to sleep baby.

its called tradition. its called a legend. its not called crap. when ur team is over 80 years old, us wings fans wont complain about any of ur traditions. go home. since 1952, weve been throwing our octopi on the ice surface. ur sharkies are younger than that. and how bout ur little dead shark, at leat we throw something thats edible when cooked. i mean come on, a shark. just think about it. go wings. wings in 6. not to mention, why are u stirring this up now, its been going on so long and i havent heard anyone complain like you have. its not like its throwing beer on the ice, and even so if they were to call the penalty of delay of game, we only throw octopi when we score or win. so if ur sharkies were on the pp after we scored, theyd still be down. especially in todays game 5. go complain some more. 55 years of traditions beats ur little complaints. go wings.
