The best place depends on what's in it. Some pond plants require full sun to grow and bloom well. The water temperature will be warmer in the sun, so it could thaw and plants start growing earlier in the year, but the water could get too hot as well - the shady pond will be cooler.

A pond that's shaded by trees might be preferred by wildlife because the trees would be protection if a predator (or person) came around. Most wildlife don't like to be out in the open. Close to trees, however, means you might need to clean leaves and branches out of the pond more often. If shaded by your house, it will still cool the pond and you'll have better access to water for filling it or doing water changes when cleaning.

Probably the reason the one in full sun is green is that the additional light helps the algae to grow better. You can help this out by using plants that float or ones that have floating leaves to block the sunlight from getting into the water. If the algae doesn't have light for photosynthesis, it won't reproduce or survive as well. It also need nutrients, so remove all leaves or other debris in the pond on a regular basis and do some partial water changes (around 20% of the pond volume) to get rid of the nitrates and phosphates from dead leaves and maybe even too much fertilizer for your pond plants.

partial shade is best, it'll be able to help keep the water heat up. on the sunny parts, plant a lot of aquatic plants who likes sunlight.
