I'm going to be blunt, so read with caution:
I am 27 weeks pregnant and the past day and a half my panties have been A LOT more wet than normal. I'm 100% positive it's not pee, so that's out of the question. But how do I know if it's excessive discharge or if I'm slowly leaking amniotic fluid? thanks

One thing you can do, and this sounds gross is to smell it. IF it smells sweet it's amniotic fluid, but if it smells like amonia, or something bitter then it's not......the best thing to do if you are in doubt is to call your DR or go to the hospital and they will test it with a test strip to determine if it is or isn't. I know the closer to the end you get, the more discharge you get. I actually started wearing pads when that time came for me because the soggy panty thing gets so gross.

Sounds like your water broke - and it's only a matter of time until contractions will begin. Go ahead - call your Dr. or your hospital and speak with a labor and delivery nurse. Call now. That way you'll have a chance to get your answer and hopefully can relax enough to get a night's sleep before the big day. Your Dr should have given you a list of reasons to call. Happy Baby Day!

I did this with my first babe.

First - call your dr. Thats what you pay them for. You'd rather be safe then sorry, right?

Second - I did this with my first babe. I woke up in the middle of the night to wet sheets. I freaked and went straight to the ER. They did the PH test and it was neg but watched me for a couple of hours - just to see what happened. Well, to make a long story short - I had a SMALL tear in the sac and my daughters head kept blocking the fluid. But when she moved - I leaked.

This went on for DAYS!!! (5 to be exact) and the dr never freaked bc the tear was so small and her head covered it most of the time. They actually sent me home. The US showed plenty of fluid and baby was healthy. When my water did break - it wasnt pretty. : )

Good luck! And get to the dr!

Go to the hospital for a test.
I don't want to scare you, but the same thing happened to me, and I was leaking amniotic fluid. I gave birth to a 28-weeker who is now a healthy and happy 3-year old (happy ending!).

You might be leaking fluid, dont hesitate to call your Dr. and if she/he can't see you, go to the ER. Whatever you do, don't panic! I had a friend who started leaking early on in the pregnancy, she went to a hospital and they told her there was basically no hope, she was having a miscarriage and she was to be transported to a different hospital which had the equipment to "take care of her". Once she got to the other hospital, they did their own tests, ultrasounds, etc. and told her she would be fine, but had to be on bed rest from now til birth.

Well, if it helps, I was like this for the last few weeks of all 3 of my pregnancies, and all was well. I think it would be best to get the all clear from your midwife, but I learnt not to wear pale colours, or go far from home!!!!
As long as all is well medically, just make yourself comfortable and relax. You are doing an amazing thing... enjoy it!

Go to the doctor and they will just place a sample on some pH paper and then you will know.

Or you can use pH paper at home if you happen to have some or know someone who has a tropical fish tank, they will have some.
