Now having two bottles that are all dried up, and need to buy another, but hope to figure this out before it's too late again. I'm not interested in buying a different type of glue unless it is similar to rubber cement, that being: it can be used as a masking agent when painting, it's re-positionable, and excess glue is easily removable from work surface. Using it since elementary school, I think that I once read about or heard that you can add a common chemical to the cement to keep it from drying in the bottle. I could also just be suffering from wishful thinking. Although, I do think the art teachers had some kind of remedy to keep this from happening with the schools' supply of rubber cement. Could it have possibly been paint thinner that was added? I'm not sure, altho I did do a brief google search, but had no such luck. Well, hopefully readers can help me out with this annoyance. (And yes I apply the lid when it's not in use, and when I'm done with it : ) Thanx

Rubber cement thinner like Bestine. I used to use rubber cement all the time and frankly, it's prone to drying. Keeping it sealed very tightly helps but there's only so much you can do. Don't buy a large bottle.

I think you should be able to coat the threads of the neck with Vaseline to keep the glue from drying out... at least that's a common rememdy with various types of glues, including E-6000 which is a similar glue.
So each time you finish using the bottle, wipe the threads well and apply a little Vaseline... that should allow you to close the cap all the way and disallow buildup of excess glue there.

Good luck,
