My son is 4 months old and has just started having screaming fits. When he has one he kicks his legs and screams like hes in pain. He eats well. I took him the ER this morning and they did a test to check his bowels, but that came back fine. He said it was possible he had colic, but I thought colic ended at 3 months. Could this be colic or gas? or something else?

He is bottle fed. I use Enfamil Prosobee Lipil. The doctor told me to put him on clear liquids like Pedialyte, but he wouldnt have it so now I have him on diluted formula. Or I will anyways once he wakes up.

YES. Tell the doctor, if the baby cries a lot. There is a tea that I used to give my child when she had colic. You can only use a little bit. I forgot the name in English, but in spanish it is called "anis". Only boil a little bit and let it cool and give in bottle. Just for a couple of days. The colic is caused by the change of milk or the milk itself.

Colic At 4 Months

My kids had colic, for what seemed like forever, and it was often accompanied by diahhrea, but I suppose it would not necessarily include that. Finally by the third child, I did the following (as the doctors did not give me any helpful advice): Formula preparation: One part soy formula, and one part milk-based formula, but VERY important - only one of the formulas in the preparation should contain iron, as iron can irritate the stomach in some babies. With this feeding, as well as feeding her in an upright position with her head tipped slightly back, to allow air bubbles to rise while feeding, the fussiness and screaming stopped. I wish I had known this with my first. I did indeed, breastfeed my first, but he had terrible colic, which I think was due to sensitivity to the cow's milk I consumed, and perhaps other things. Colic does not necessarily end at a certain age, even though doctors say it should. Of course, you do need to go to your regular pediatrician to be sure there are no other problems.

My kids all had colic until nine months old. The first one started at one month old. Keep track of what he eats or what the mother is eating if she is nursing.
