I think I'd prefer a Thompson/Gingrich ticket, but I don't think it would be near the landslide it could be with Thompson running with someone else. Gingrich is one of the smartest men this country has seen--so I think he should be Secretary of State and Fred will have to choose someone else. If not Mitt.....who and why?

Thank you Map--I addressed my Q to cons because I didn't want the venom spewing answers you can get when you leave it open to everyone. But open minded individuals such as yourself are welcome--here's a look at Fred: http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Fred_Thompson.htm
BTW--if the right moderate democrat were running, I'd vote for them too. Nice to find some common ground and someone who doesn't view all cons as the enemy. = )

skonch01--tho the idea of a black/woman as VP may appeal to the "I wanna vote for a black and/or woman just because its a novelty" crowd, Dr. Rice is a brilliant woman, but too closely tied with Bush. Cons as well as libs will be shying away from anything 'Bush related' come 08.

Sounds OK to me. I don't know as much about either man as I need to to be certain, but that ticket is lightyears ahead ov any possible ticket the Dems could possibly have.

I'm curious as to why you targeted your question to conservatives. Believe it or not there are democrats who will vote for a republican if we think they are the best candidate.

To answer your question, Thompson hasn't announced so I haven't looked that closely at him but I have no reason to rule him out. Same with Romney. The only person you mentioned that I would definitely not vote for is Gingrich.

I'm kind of intrigued by the idea of a Thompson/Rice ticket myself. I agree Newt is one of the most brilliant minds out there today, but lots of baggage. He's much better as an idea guy, than an administrator, diplomat, executive.

Well if Thompson would declare his candidacy, I would certainly vote for the two of them.
