Yes. With the exception of the indian reservations which if I recall correctly the government is trying to force them to tax there cigarettes. Some States (like New York) are worse than others in the excise tax. Anytime I travel (i.e., carribbean) I totally buy as much as I can carry. $3.15 a pack you can't go wrong.

In New York theres definitely a tax.

I live in New York City and I've paid as much as $8.50 for a pack of cigarettes. The normal amount though is $6.98 at the Duane Reade down the block.

My friends from Maryland get me cartons for like $20 dollars though.

It's not a "user" tax, but an excise tax. The Federal government levies an excise tax on all tobacco products as do all of the states.

If they weren't taxed in every state, they would be illegal. As long as the government gets money who really cares who dies and lives?

yes, its a federal tax meaning that it applies to all the states.
