I know it's illegal to own in many cases, but is there someway i could get 100ml or so? (without breaking tons of thermometers)

You will not be able to purchase "used" mercury because RCRA laws will persuade the disposal company to manifest it for life. If they sell you 100 mls and you go out and pour it on the ground, the EPA has the authority to go back to the seller and force them to pay for the cleanup costs.

So, you will need to Google Mercury suppliers, or go through hoops to purchase it. You will not likely be able to get it without EPA approval since it is a toxic metal.

For your health and safety and the health of others owning mercury is a bad idea.

Remember in Alice and Wonderland there was the Mad Hatter.
People who made hats used mercury to treat felt and it destroyed their nervous system so they would get the shakes.

I have given you some links to the mad hatter and mercury.
It would make a good subject for a science report.
