we bought a 1995 monte carlo and it ran perfect except the transmission was going out so he took out engine and transmission and put another transmission and same engine back in the car now the car does not idle very well. when first cranked it idles high for a second and then it wont idle until warm then after it warms up it idles while driving but when stop idles rough. what can cause this. like i said it idled fine no problems until transmission changed he said he checked all vaccuum lines and plugs and plug wires but could not find anything wrong

after pulling engine out and reinstalling do you have to reset the computer or something could that be it if so how do you reset the computer?

he unpluged each one of plug wires on front of engine one by one and made it cut out bad but when he unplugged each one of plug wires on back of engine one by one had no effect on running

He put a transmission in with a bad vacuum modulator.

Have the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid in the transmission checked in case it's making the engine stall. You may be able to have your mechanic disconnect the TCC electrical connector at the transmission and drive the car to see if you still have the problem.

sounds like a vacume leak
