I have to take this even one step further. I had a professor in college that was blind. He used a computer device to type down all of his "notes", like take attendance, record your grade and even give you feedback about a paper or speech. If you closed your eyes and listened to him, you could hear what he was saying but also "see it". It was distracting the first day, because you wonder how in the world is this guy going to teach us from a book he can not see, but it quickly became known that he knew what he was talking about and he ended up being on the greatest teachers I had during my time at that college.

I don't believe that respect is the issue here. The issue with overweight teachers in general is that there is a threat to the overall health of the body when the weight reaches a number too high to control. I DO respect the teachers who go out of their way to maintain a healthy lifestyle physcially and nutritiously and will do that for their own personal well being/

Weight has nothing to do with it if that teacher knows their subject teaches it with enthusiasm and has you all listening then their appearance size wise shouldnt matter after all do you find that really skinny people would have you asking the same question I think not, so dont be sizeist.
We had one teacher who had a disability she had a tremor which affected her neck and so her head literally shook at times. Now when the girls (all girls school) first came across her they would giggle and call her names behind her back. But I can guarantee that once they had one lesson with her they loved her to bits and would stand up for her the minute anyone started giggling behind her back. She was fair but firm and know her subject and every lesson was different and interesting. Its the only time I ever took interest in Religious Education.
Everyone in the world is different please dont start you life by making judgements about people before you know them. There are a lot of very intelligent men and women out there and because they are viewed as "fat" people think they are thick.
Good luck in your studies I hope you never have to battle with judgements being made about you.

respect has nothing to do with weight, respect is gained through knowledge. but if the teacher is abit fat than she is likely to be more open to our ridicule and rude remarks but if its not the weight than it probably be something else so it dont really matter if a teacher is big
if u are the teacher, then dont worry about it too much just make sure u are kind o your sutdents, nice and know how to dicipline the class and u ll get the respect u deserve

My French teacher at school was very overweight, and she was gay too, but that was immaterial to me and it made no difference to the fact that she was a bloody good teacher, and I was very sad when she left to teach at another school. I didn't rate my teachers on what they looked like or anything else, but rather on how good they were and how much respect they showed us too.

You can only respect those teachers who earn your respect by proving themselves to be both good at their job, and fair with the students. By that I mean that they treat you with respect, but can also spot those who are coasting and intervene to get them working to capacity. As an ex teacher I know that the ability to recognise where the cause of dissension starts is the best way to gain respect, regardless of stature.

Yes, the size of the person doesn't matter. It's how they teach that's important. I had a teacher at college who taught Communications, he was somewhat overweight, his class was fun and he was an interesting person.

Yes, I have an engineering teacher who is the man, a lot of man, lol. I get where you're coming from though, that it seems like a lot a fat teachers just are bad. I think that it shouldn't matter, it's just sterotyping them (and sterotypes are often true). What's bad is a fat gym or health teacher, and the worst is a fat coach for a sport.

I have a question for you! First off did your parents teach you to respect your elders?? Second, did you learn anything in college, like perhaps, that weight has NOTHING to do with how intelligent a person is??
A question such as this dear, shows YOUR lack of intelligence and respect for your elders!

I never associated respect with the girth of a teacher/prof., but I have encountered a few who were fat heads and I didn't have much respect for them. So I suppose the answer's 'yes.'
