Let's assume your computer plus your monitor uses 200 watts (probably not that much, but will make the math simpler).

Let's further assume that you pay $0.10 per kilowatt-hour for your electricity.

Leaving your computer ON 24 hours a day will cost you:
200 watts x 24 hours = 4800 watt hours, or 4.8 kilowatt-hours. At $0.10 per kilowatt hour, it will cost you about five cents per day to keep your computer on all the time. This is $1.44 per month or about $17.52 per year.

So the most you can save is $17.52 a year (by leaving it off all the time).

There are some people that argue that turning your computer off and on heats and cools the computer causing eventual damage -- as opposed to leaving it on all the time where it is always about 1 temperature. I have never seen a convincing argument either way -- even though people will "swear" by one of these methods.

The best bet is to buy a EnergyStar certified laptop because they use much less electricity on average than a desktop computer does. Trust me on this one -- I live off the grid and every watt used counts at my house -- I carefully measured everything we had that plugs in with a watt-meter.

Now having said all that, think of your computer as a 150 watt light bulb. Would you leave it on all the time? Does it make sense to waste that electricity? I don't think it is a responsible thing to do. My advice, turn everything off you don't use, and unplug any wall transformers you are not using since they consume electricity all the time -- whether or not they are charging something.

Well, not a ton. I don't think you would save a lot, but its worth doing I guess.
I would however reccommend just putting it to standby (which makes your computer use just a couple watts) or hibernating rather than shutting it down though. Just because it is faster to start back up.

People that are saying computers use a TON of power are wrong. Computers are very efficient espcially when they aren't in use.

Another tip: set it to go to standby after being idle a few minutes. Don't set it to screensaver, it doesn't save energy.

As long as you shut it on and off for good, probably yes. Computers take up a ton of power, even when idling. However, they use about 10x idling power as they start up, so only turn it off when you're done for the day!

pass to "Tank Scheduler" on your administration Panel and create a clean interest. in the wizard, you are able to pick once you opt to finish the interest and someplace in the best enter right here in the "Run" field: C:WINDOWSsystem32shutdown.exe -s -c "Your shutdown message" -f
