I am pregnant again, and have heard that I will have to have another c-section. I live in Kansas, and have heard that some hospitals require this if you have had a c-section before. Is this true?

Many Doc's do not want to take the extra time to see if you can have your child VBAC.
It is easier for them just to schedule a C-section. It is not required to have another C-section, but, your Doc may only do things his way.
Find a midwife. They will do everything humanly possibly for you to have a natural birth.

You are not required to have another c-section unless they cut you up-to-down unstead of side-to-side... or there is some kind of pregnancy complication.

I am planning a Vaginal Birth after Cesearen (VBAC). Look around for a doctor and hospital that is willing to do this. Most are concerned about the risk- but that's because you don't sign a waiver before the VBAC the way you do before the C-Section. In reality the C-Section is more dangerous but they are less liable.

I understand how you feel. If you live in Kansas, I am assuming the hospital you will deliver at is not very high tech and not close to any bigger university hospital. The VBAC depends on your doctor and hospital, but almost all hospitals will do it. It is risky, though because the uterus could rupture. This is VERY unlikely if you had a normal C-Section incision, but if you had one going like this l as opposed to this _ then you will need a repeat section. I WOULD DEFANITELY TALK TO THE DOCTOR ABOUT A VBAC, AS THEY ARE GREAT!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!

Yes it is true, but its not so much the hospital as it is the doctor. They take into account the position of the incesion, and how strained "thin" your uterus is. With each pregnancy the uterus stetches and becomes thinner.. If you have a thin uterus along with a uterin scare chances are they will want to do another C-Section.. If the doctor feels your uterus will be able to stand up to a labor and delivery without complications then a VBAC is possible.. That is if he/she allows them.. Talk to your doctor and see what they do in this kind of situation.. Best of Luck, and Congratulations....

It is ot always necessary. Until a few years ago, a c-section required another c-section afterwards, if you got pregnant again. But the last ten years or so teh c-section gets done differently, and the uterus is not getting too fragile. So it is possible to give natural birth, but only the doctor can judge it. Because if your c-section has made your uterus fragile, it is dangerous to give natural birth.

Absolutely not. Its called a VBAC. Vaginal Birth After Cesarean. My friend had a C section with her first, and then a vaginal with her second. If a dr is telling you that "just because you had a c section once, you have to have another one" you need to get a new dr who has had some more training since the early 90's.

I have heard the same but in recent years I have heard that some doctors will perform vaginal after a c-section. I think there are circumstances that will have to be looked at.

Talk it over with your doctor. If you don't like that answer don't hesitate to talk to many others. It is your pregnancy and it is your perogative to be as informed as possible.

It used to be required in ALL subsequent pregnancies, but things have changed a lot over recent years and you can ONLY get the answer from your own doctor.
