For Windows 98

Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on Settings and then click on the Control Panel icon.

Then Double click on the Multimedia icon until it opens for you.

This will bring up the Sounds and Multimedia Properties window.

At the lower left corner of the screen is a white box next to Show volume control on the taskbar.

To enable the yellow speaker icon, place a check mark into the white box with your mouse.

To disable the yellow speaker icon, simply remove the check mark from the white box.

Then click on the OK button to close the Multimedia Properties Window.

And then close the Control Panel to return back to your Windows session.

Open start in your tray menu, go to accessories and look for "sound Volume" and open. You can adjust the sound from there. If it is not there in Windows 98 try entertainment, under look for sound volume.

I run Windows XP, and my sound volume is in the tray as well as in the start menu under entertainment.

Either way you will find it in your start menu, open an adjust your sound.
