I got y= -5 and y = 3...but think it may be wrong

First change signs:
y² + 2y -15 = 0.
Now factor
(y+5)(y-3) = 0
Solve
y = -5 and y = 3.
So you are correct.

-y^2-2y+15=0

-1(y-5)(y+3)=0
-1(5)=-5
-1(-3)=3
y=-5 y=3
