Shut it down and hook it to the mobo instead, check your BIOS's video setting. Set it to AUTO, PCI-e, or AGP depending on which type you have. Shut it down and reattach to the video card and start it up. Update the driver. Hope this helps.

PS. AUTO should let the mobo decide itself which is being used. ie. Onboard or a dedicated video card.

If it is just black screen but processor and power supply fans are running, that's a good sign that motherboard is not grounded to the case.

Remove the video card then clean the slot with a small paint brush. Reseat the video card twice and make sure that it is fully plugged in. For the old video card, try cleaning its contact pins with pencil eraser.

Usually when there is a problem w/ the videocard, you get the 1 long, 2 short beeps after powering ON. If after reseating the card, you still have black screen and no beeps, the problem could be w/ the motherboard.

if you tried both of them and they bout show nothing then when you installed the video card you fried the mother board. or the monitor is bad. so go plug the monitor in to another computer and see if it works. if not then the monitor is bad. if it dose work then the motherboard is dead.
