I'm being offered Hideki Matsui for Josh Beckett in a 12 team head to head league. We start 5 OF and 5 SP. I have Tim Lincecum waiting and a decent rotation of Willis, Arroyo, Capuano, Millwood and Garcia behind Beckett. My OF is a bit on the slim side with Alex Rios, Josh Willingham, Austin Kearns as my 3 main guys and I've stocked my bench to play the hot hand between Adam Lind, Jason Kubel, Elijah Dukes, Jacque Jones and Andre Eithier. I'd like Matsui's bat
in my lineup since power is key to winning and he plays everyday in the Yankees lineup when he's healthy. Yet is Beckett to much to give up?

Make the deal. You clearly need outfield help and although gotta love the start Beckett has gotten off to history isnt exactly on his side ( and he hasnt spent much time yet this year pitching to the AL east and central clubs yet...except KC). There are almost always guys you can scrounge from the free agent pool to help with occasional starts (love the Lincecum pickup, have him on most of my fantasy teams) and for the most part your pitching looks solid (look for something better than garcia, his era will kill you eventually). I dont think Beckett is too high a price for Matsui, he can help all week, Beckett maybe once or twice a week (provided he even pitches well on that week). it is a good deal, i would personally do it.

I would deny the trade and counter offer with another pitcher. Josh Beckett is off to a great start, getting run support and is on one of the best teams in the majors right now. Matsui is off to a slow start because of an injury but should come around and have a good year. I just think you would be giving him way too much.

i wouldnt do it straight up, maybe try offering beckett and willingham for matsui and one of his decent pitchers. i dont think its worth losing your best pitcher for a good bat, its not going to help you in the long run.
