hi there! i am also an actress. i am 15 years old and i have the same problems. well i got "Discovered" when i was 13. i signed a temporary contract with an agency and paid a small fee. then this agency provided acting/modeling classes and had photographers and hair/make-up stylists come in and do our head shots. later on, we met up with a guy who will chose some people out of the whole class to go to a competition in NYC or LA, this competition is called IMTA. this competition was for us to showcase our talents and hopefully get DISCOVERED by a big time agency. I made it to IMTA
It was a great experience. but i learned on that trip (i was 14) that i was in the "wrong age group". apparently 11-15 year olds are not the ones being looked at...mainly the 3-10 and 16+ , i did get call backs but no contracts were signed. i plan on going back when i'm older and better. probably 17-24. so here are my suggestions.
1) there are many acting and models agencies...look for one by you
2) invest your money and time into acting classes (and Modeling...believe me!)
3) do public shows in your local theater-work on your resume
4) don't really try for IMTA or the "Big Leagues" until you have experience, practice, and lessons
5) wait till you are a little older...at least 16...until you "Exhibit" yourself
if you have any questions, email me. i am exactly where you are and are going for the same dream. GO For It!

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. They definitely have some in Texas!
Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.
Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/CastingCall/castingcallhome.asp If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough to find out the rest on your own without paying (For instance, you may see the theatre's name and many theatres hve their own site and list their auditions on them) OR you can go to your local bookstore or newstand and look at their print publication (new every Thursday) for free. Good luck!
