Is it due to spirituality or laziness? Or something else?

Different philosophies in life.

Some people value fame. I do not. Some people value wealth. I do not. Some people put fame and wealth ahead of people and society.

It depends on what you've been taught, what you choose to believe and how you would like to lead your life.

Some people need attention and seek fame. Some people need objects for their happiness and seek wealth. I don't need either of those things.

i have got ideas which are extremely contrary to yours :-o

i thought the exact opposite :-o

but i should tell you..but i request ,don't laugh...

well i think ppl who have abundant talent and self-confidence...have so much energy that they want to do everything in life...so they sometimes get stuck at what they are best in...and get entangled in their own choices...because nothing is impossible for them...and then by the time they figure out what's their focus...they end up being ordinary and less-ambitious...he he

those who are spiritual they shun the fame, glamour of a successful person...because in the end they realise..its not worth the knowledge they want to gain out of their lives...the desire for a higher and supreme knowledge leads them to shun the luxurious life...but they infact live the richest life in the universe.

And i agree lazy ppl are NOT ambitious...they just don't have enough time. ;)

but an average human being(with an ambition)..with less talents and less self-confidence...learns a lot, experiences a lot and they develop their ambitions because of their "want" to be better than the extremely-talented ones..they end up being the most successful in the material world.

but then i maybe wrong!! :)

take care!
:)

There are so many reasons people don't live up to outward standards.

I think when it all comes down to it 'greatness' (which seems to be the end product of the combo you touch on) is for those who find it in history. True greatness is never measured at the time of it's rising any way.

I think society is blind to the potential and becomes accustom to idolizing what may be or what once was.

Saying that those such folk prefer an ordinary life may be the fact that they are just people and much too current to be considered anything great yet.....or they understand the systems in the world for what they are.

true some search out fame, others just be.(truly great ones?)

Sometimes the ambition changes. The person is still as ambitious, as talented, and as self-confident as ever (maybe more so in one or all of these characteristics) but decides, or learns, to direct things in another direction. Others perceive him/her as lacking ambition, but maybe they don't understand what his/her ambitions are. As Thoreau said, he's decided to "march to a different drummer." I heard that Gaugain was a successful broker before he went off to the South Pacific. Maybe people shook their heads and thought "What got into his head all of a sudden — he gave all that up to become a useless beach bum." But he painted the pictures we now enjoy and, from the perspective of 2007, we couldn't care less if he gave up his earlier ambition and succeses.

Not everyone can do this, or should do this. Chac'un a son gout.

Just they prefer their live ..

They are self confident .. so they know they can do it .. just not interested in other stuffs..

They do what they interested in ..

And may be some of them .. have some other important issues ( for them ) to deal with ..
Like he make his girl pregnant .. and his self dignity and awareness make him decide the choice ..
or other stuffs like that ..

Yet Laziness an issue but to a less extent ..

And be sure .. they always got what they want at the end ..

Have a great day ..
Good luck

Maybe they just think a regular life is hard enough, but if the good they could do is really needed and could prevent or heal great harm that could come or has happened already then they at least need to consider that and know that harm can come to people from inaction as well as action. It makes me think of a few quotes I've saved

This one I paraphrase because I don't know the exact words of who said it

Evil triumphs when good people stand by and do nothing

"A man must live like a great, bright flame and burn as brightly as he can, In the end, he burns out. But this is better than a mean, little flame."
- Boris Yeltsin

"Those who have the privilege to know have the duty to act."
- Albert Einstein

"The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. . . . As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves."
-Abraham Lincoln
Annual message to Congress
Dec. 1, 1862

What he said I think every generation must do in order to learn, grow, become more free, equal, peaceful, wise and to truly make advancements.

It depends how you define ambition.

I am an aspiring novelist and martial artist. I took philosophy in university. I'm sure I could have taken an MBA and gone into business and dedicated my life to outward success, but I decided early in life that wasn't what was most important to me.
I feel I do O.K. in life and I don't feel the need to climb up the to of the social ladder. The things I do I do take seriously and I want to do well. I think that qualifies as ambition.
I think our society generally puts too much focus on status, and how we are outwardly perceived. You know who Britney Spears is. Yet, in my opinion, she's a talented person, but with little real artistic insight. Fewer people have hear of Jean-Michel Jarre. He is one of our time's musical geniuses.
To thine own self be true.

You need more than talent and self confidence for an extraordinary life...you need imagination and the will to make sacrifices if people don/t understand you!

even the main significant volume of self-worth can not convey one's spirits/faith up whilst the chips are down on him. each and every so often there are issues/circumstances that require the two self belief and supplies/ability to handle the region. faith is an illustration of power. A waek individual does not have self belief in something in any respect, even to himself.

I would say a lack of motivation and encouragement to see the bigger picture. We all tend to lack ambition to move out of our comfort zones, and fear the unknown. Try a little less arrogance and alot more prayer.
