I do not think the movie revealed the motive of the killers to the viewers.

Why did the killers killed the entire family in the movie?

Well, in the film they talk about how they went there to rob the house. A man in prison told one of the men that the father kept a large amount of money in the safe, but it turned out that wasn't true. Now from the book "In Cold Blood" based on the actual events, the men had planned to "leave no witnesses" from the very beginning. They went in there intending to murder the family to make sure they got away with it and that's just what they did even though they didn't get the money.

the movie was not about the killers but about the life of Truman Capote, who wrote a book about them.

the family was killed for the oldest reason in the world: greed. the killers had heard rumors that they had a lot of money hidden in the house and went to get it. when they did not get what they wanted, they got mad and decided not to leave any witnesses.
