Technically DVD-R is more compatible across the board, but the advantage is VERY VERY minor, probably less than 2% nowadays.

Best manufacturer of media... Taiyo Yuden out of Japan is the one you want (I may have spelled it improperly). Next would be Sony Japan and/or Verbatim. These are A-list. Some people say Sony Taiwan products are B grade, I don't agree.

Other name-brand like Memorex, Magnavox, etc. are B or C list material. Memorex is okay, usually B, as is 3M media, also B.

Any store brand like Playo, Office Depot house brand, etc. would be C unless you get lucky and get FUJIFILM03 media code, which is a B-.

See http://www.nomorecoasters.com for a full list of what to look for and how to tell who REALLY made your DVD media.

Honestly, six of one and half a dozen of the other. DVD-R is the official DVD Consortium format, but DVD+R works just as well. The difference is mainly how the burner tracks its position while writing and assuming the player supports both there is very little to no difference. (i.e. seek times and drive limitation will make longer delays than any format problems.)

dvd + is better than dvd-. Im not sure why exactly but it just is. when buying dvds either get cheap unbranded ones (but they may be unreliable) or get good better quality ones. For a good quality one I say memorex or imation. I have awalts bought dvds made by them and have never had any problems
