I think what it is is alot of country artists are beginning to come out with music that leans towards a general audience not just country music listeners. Rascal Flatts is a huge example of that, sure they are considered a country band but their music doesn't sound extremely country. I mea "Bless The Broken Road" was played all over the radio on all sorts of different stations. It's the same with Shania Twain, ALOT of her number one hits didn't sound like country music. But then if you really think about it, alot of country artists aren't really sounding all that country these days. I mean look at country music now and then look at country music back in the 50's and 60's. I mean that was the time when REAL country was alive. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Rascal Flatts and Toby and Shania, they are amazing country artists. They are amazing because they are able to still stay faithful to their country roots but still produce something that everyone not just die hard country fans can enjoy.

Not everyone think country music is stupid dear heart. You are right there is confusion as to the styles now. I love all kinds of music, from jazz, to country, to pop, to opera. I agree with you that country songs lyrics have meaning besides sex and drugs!
My favorite in country music singer is Dolly Parton. She's got such a beautiful aura of energies when she sings. She is such an extraordinary lady too! And I also have a lot of admiration for Wellie Nelson ! Although it was not a country song, I can never forget his version of " America the beautiful". when the tv special was on after 9-11... It made me cry!...It came from his heart! Most country singers are singing that way and this, no-one can take that away from them in any style!
Have a beautiful week-end.

Country Music is much more popular than people want to think. People wish to brush it aside and forget about it, but that will never be the case. It's music with a meaning. Sure, people like rock and rap since it's cool but it has no meaning after you get past puberty.
I'm a die hard fan for old country like Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.

I'm in total agreement! I love country, and Faith Hill on the contemporary station is not country anymore! Everyone thinks country is all twang and "my dog died and my wife done run off". If they'd listen, they'd find something different.

Thanks for saying that! We shouldn't have to defend ourselves for liking real music that has real meaning! And nice melodies. And nice harmonies. And let's just face it, nice EVERYTHING! Country rocks, and I'm glad that more people listen now, but y'all have to realize what you're listenign to & own it! So let me get a big hell yeah from the redneck girls...
