or here

or DVD Shrink from www.download.com

movies do tend to take up alot of space on your hard drive, so once you start noticing things slowing down, that means you have too many films.
You can also use Nero 6 to burn the dvd's (may be pre-installed on your pc) onto a blank disc, once you have used one of the other 2 programs to capture the film.
Make sure you know what dvd format your dvd player is. dvd-r or dvd+r, then get the compatible discs to burn on to

What you want to do is be able to play the dvd from your hard drive. If it is a commercial dvd they will prevent you doing this using encryption software. Copying a dvd onto your hard drive is illegal and if it was that easy everyone would just copy the files and share them with each other. If it isn't a commercial dvd you can buy lots of software which will record the output from a dvd player onto your computer as an mpeg or avi etc but it will create a very large file and the graphics card on your computer must have the connections for rgb or composite video. Then you should be able to store it locally and watch it using your media player. A commercial dvd is 9gb and a blank dvd is 4.7gb. If you want to copy commercial dvds you will also need encryption software, compression software and a whole lot of knowledge and experience which I don't think you have. My advice, think of a legal and easier way of making money like washing cars or buying and selling stuff on ebay.

Are you attempting to put data from a dvd onto your hard-drive onto a computer or an actual movie type dvd. If you are attempting to put data on it should just be a drag and drop affair.
If you want a movie i reconmend a program called dvd decrypter;
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm
(or use other google link - all should work)
