I don't like losing points, believe me. But I need help on this. My math teacher takes away a mark if we don't do our homework, even if we don't know how to. Explanations would be nice.

3 cm remote from the midsection of the circle. in case you photo a circle with 2 radii = 5 cm each and each and every and each and each and every and the chord = 8 touching the precise of the only radius and the diverse radius cuts the chord in 0.5. So between the radius cuts it in 0.5 making the chord = 2 4 cm segments. you've made a triangle with an finished radius touching the precise of the chord that = 5, a chord decrease into 0.5 that = 4, and the radius that cuts the chord in 0.5 which = x. Wow, that likely would not make adventure. So utilizing the Pythagorean theorem, you should apply this formula to treatment the triangle: 5^2 = 4^2 + x^2 25 = 16 + x^2 9 = x^2 x = 3. if you're no longer any further getting it, in basic terms have self belief me: the answer is 3.

3 cm away from the center of the circle.

If you picture a circle with 2 radii = 5 cm each and the chord = 8 touching the top of the one radius and the other radius cuts the chord in half. So one of the radius cuts it in half making the chord = two 4 cm segments. You have made a triangle with a full radius touching the top of the chord that = 5, a chord cut into half that = 4, and the radius that cuts the chord in half which = x.

Wow, that probably doesn't make sense.

So using the Pythagorean theorem, you can use this formula to solve the triangle:
5^2 = 4^2 + x^2
25 = 16 + x^2
9 = x^2
x = 3.

If you don't get it, just trust me: the answer is 3.

O is centre of circle
OB is radius.
OA is radius
AB is chord
D is mid point of chord.
OD is perpendicular to chord AB
In triangle ODB:-
5² = OD² + 4²
OD² = 25 - 16
OD² = 9
OD = 3 cm
Chord is 3 cm from centre of circle.
