I need to write a letter to a company not sure how to do it on laptop!?

If your using MS Windows, then try "Wordpad". Its included in your operating system.

Typically a WORD PROCESSOR - a program used for inputting text and making documents (such as letters as you say). There are many word processing programs but for sure you must have some form on your laptop whatever the operating system or software in it. If you have Microsoft for example; you can use "Microsoft Word" (whatever the version), or Wordpad, or Notepad. However, Microsoft Word is the best of them because it allows you to adjust the page setup, margins, styles, etc.

Microsoft Word - if you need help on this then go to help at the top of the page and click show office assistant (or somthing like that) the office assistant will help if you ask it a question or if you start to type in the layout of a letter it should give a prompt for help. good luck.

If you have Microsoft Word installed then use that. Don't try using notepad that is no good for letter.
Word Pad is OK but it doesn't have a spell checker but there are free Office applications - this is a particularly good one:

Really?are you using Windows?Use Microsoft Word. Click Start->Programs->Microsoft Word..

the most commonly included with your computer software is Microsoft Works this has a Word Processor in the package

dont use notepad.
use wordpad - that will definatly be on your laptop, under accessories, or if on vista simply type wordpad into the search on the start menu.
it is simple and easy to use.
although if you can get to grips with microsoft word, i'd use that if it is on your computa.
