I know you have probably seen some e-mails going around not to buy gas on the 15th of May. When they did it 1997 the oil companies lost almost 3 million dollars that day. What do you think about the unfair gas prices that are always jacked up when a catastropy or heavy traveling times occur?

I just wanted to add this is a unity plea. WE elect a president, this is our country. He happens to be a OIL man. Come on you guys. WE HAVE TO UNITE. Without unity nothing can be done. What is it gonna hurt to stay away on certain days. I think it should be done more often then they will understand that WE are not going to be abused by high gas prices. Think about it.....How much did you do without when gas prices were so high last year. Did you stay home more often. Not able to take your family out to dinner for a while?? These are just some examples. Please add yours.

i say its worth a shot, urban legend or not what have we go to lose ? regular gas is over $3.25 near Chicago It will be 5 bucks by summer and Bush does not give a flying fig and no one else in government does either it seems.i will try it. I think the oil companies want to make it seem like its a rumor and a urban legend i say lets go for it: HERES THE LETTER GOING ROUND
Subject: FW: Don't pump gas May 15th 2007
NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on may 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are urged to not go to a gas station, in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and let's try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, "Don't pump gas on May 15th"

I say what have we got to lose? nothing and maybe we can gain some ground with the oil co's on our own f the politicians who do nothing for us anymore lets do it and yeah don't go on the 14 th or the 16th to fill up.. it will defeat the purpose

you're genuinely proper, the plan doesnt paintings in any respect. the genuinely situation that works, is utilizing a lot less gas. And, extra, for each human being who gassed up proper now rather of the following day, you helped the gas businesses even extra. How? difficulty-free economics! The time fee of money idea states that a greenback proper now is nicely worth more beneficial than an IOU of $a million or a greenback the following day. because, in case you purchase something proper now, you're making positive that the gas businesses get a xyz money proper now. there's a small, yet authentic, element of the inhabitants that isn't purchase gas the following day, even even with the reality that planned to! this is because element of the inhabitants will call in sick to paintings, have motor vehicle issues and take public transit, cancel plans, be sure to take an afternoon without work paintings, or maybe die. purchase procuring gas formerly it truly is necessary, you're increasing earnings for the gas agency. because you're hedging your bets that you're going to desire and use all the gas you in basic terms bought. at the same time as really tens of millions or billions of gallons of gas that to procure tonight is in basic terms no longer used the following day or the subsequent day - or next week. straightforward experience could tell those who, you could no longer take it interior the booty proper now, once you should attend till the following day - rather once you would no longer ought to take it in any respect.

It won't work...
The gas people don't add up the bottom line every day. They average out monthly and quarterly just like any other business.
The only way this would show any significance is if everyone take a couple of days off of work and don't drive at all. That way the gas isn't used.

Hey brilliant, it's called economics. When more gasoline is being used or the infrastructure to import and refine oil has been damaged,

1. It costs more money to produce it because extra facilities must be used, extra people must be hired, extra trucks must be dispatched, extra materials must be purchased, etc.

2. Prices on the oil market go up because investors are willing to pay more to assure a constant supply.

Bogus... one still needs to buy gas eventually. Postponing the purchase for a day accomplishes absolutely nothing. It, unfortunately, is an effort in futility.

Won't work... because you still have to buy gas... what I heard would work though, is if everyone tried to take the bus on one day and over loaded the bus system... I don't know if that would work either, just what I heard... also I wouldn't count on getting to work on time that day either :) if at all

It's a great idea but then people can't go in on the 14th or the 16th and gas up or it overloads and defeats the purpose.
