I am an avid breastfeeder for my daughter...but I had magarita. When is it safe to breast feed again? I have read several contradicting things on the internet. Should I pump and dump? Or how long before its safe to breastfeed again?

No, contrary to popular belief, you do not need to pump and dump. Alcohol does not remain trapped in your breastmilk. Once you are feeling sober, it is OK to breastfeed. It is OK to have a drink or two and breastfeed. Check out the laleche website and babycenter for facts about alcohol and breastfeeding. And, good for you for breastfeeding! Best wishes!

Unless you are a binge drinker, it's a nonproblem. Some women skip one feeding just to be on the safe side (seems reasonable). There is no reason to pump and dump unless you are in pain. I would go by Le Leche League's answer, which I have linked to for you. They drew information from not only the AAP, but also experts in the breastfeeding field.

It takes an hour per drink to get through your system... And I'd totally pump and dump. (pump on your normal feeding schedule so you don't screw up your supply - but large amounts of alchol does reduce your supply)
With a lot of stories I've read, they don't even suggest dumping, just waiting for it to go through your system... but I can't imagine drinking and not having it affect the breast milk when everything from what you eat to what you second hand smoke does affect it... So, why risk getting your little baby drunk? Just dump it and you'll have nothing to worry about.

I know alot of people say waste the next round of breast milk, but I have read that you don't really have to. You just need to wait a few hours to metabolize the alcohol through your system. If you can plan when you want to drink pump before doing so.

i'm really not sure how long it will take to get out of your system, but I would say a day maybe two at the most...

and to keep from worrying about this in the future when you'd like to relax and have a drink... pump some extra milk for the next few meals before you go drinking.

How much did you drink? A bottle? Just kidding.. One drink is OK,honestly, nothing is going to be bad, I would pump, and substitute that feeding with the formula, or your stored, breezed milk. If nothing is available, feed her, she'll sleep better:)

When my ex wife breast fed, I learned these facts, it takes your body an hour to process one ounce of alcohol, so any milk produces in that time will have trace amounts in it. My adsvice would be to pump and dump at least once, then you should be fine to continue as normal.

Unless it was one of those mega-novelty margaritas.. 3 hours and one pump/dump should be fine.

Personally i would be asking your doctor, because you really don't want your daughter to have alcohol in her system, and maybe you should refrain form drinking any alcohol in tell you not breast feeding!
