Second hand is used, ie stripped out of a scrap car and offered for sale as is. Reconditioned means some work has been carried out. Depending on the reconditioner that may be cleaning, spraying with a can of paint, or if you're lucky a complete rebuild with new wearing parts

The genuine Car dealers replace (reconditioning) the most of the worn and tearable parts before selling.
Eg: Clutch plate, Fanbelt, Timingchain/belt, Brake linings/Pads, Battery, Oil/Petrol filters etc.
Seconhand means just used by someone else.
Every brand new (specially japanese ) Car will loose it's worth by 20% at at first year.
2nd Year 25%
3rd Year 30%
4th Year 40%
5th Year 50%
Buying a Reconditioned/ second hand Car is a clever decision.

i own a shop and reconditioning means it has been went over real good and the things wrong with it have been fixed or repaired, second hand usually just means it is had been owned by other people and they may or may not have taken good care of it,if a car has been reconditioned,it means its probably been taken in and all the needed things replaced ,and it may be a good car again, but basically that's pretty much what it means, good luck hope this helps.

Okay, for an example, let's say it's a simple wooden table, nothing fancy, top and 4 legs.
Second hand. I bought it, I used it for a couple of years, I put it in the yard sale, you buy it.
Reconditioned. I take it apart, put new glue in all the places where it is glued, and put new screws in. Now I sand all the wood, and refinish it. It's now 'like new' but of course NOT new--instead it's reconditioned.

reconditioning is when you take a part and make it just as good as new...
second hand stuff or parts is like going over to your friends house for a tire...

Second hand = old part good enough for the job.
Reconditioned = second hand part reworked to be equal in condition as a new part would be.

to be honest with you 2nd hand and re-conditioned theres not that much difference. you will find for instance a car gearbox re-conditioned is a gearbox that is tested for all gears working a clean with a jetwash and new oil. thats about it!. 2nd hand is usually a gearbox taken from a working car, no oil change and no jetwash... thats about it apart from the difference in price! hope that helps....
