My children are grown, but I still tell them about dangers out there. As for my grandchildren? If we go to a store, I watch them every single instant. If I can't see one for a few seconds, I call them and I tell them to ALWAYS stay where I can see them. I've heard and seen too many shows about child kidnapping, and I may be a little paranoid, but they're safe!

I am the gatekeeper between my son and the world. Not to isolate him, but, to ensure that his experience were appropriately challenging, and the risks reasonably managed. My parents raised me in a very different time, and, their algorithms do not apply in today's world.

*thinks*
I can't think of ways they protected me. We didn't wear helmets, or seat belts, and they let my brother build a go-cart, they made us talk to people(strangers), we didn't have cell phones in case there was an emergency........,
How the hell I got through childhood unharmed is beyond me.

Taught my kids Weaponry and Striking skills in Martial Arts.
Also, care and firing of rifles and shotguns.

The rest is common sense.

My childhood?....They tried to fence us in, but we busted out.
