We use a Buffalo Technology router for situations like this. The WZR-RS-G54 has a VPN end point built into its software so all that has to happen is connect it up, setup the VPN users, and poof instant VPN..

The only problem is they are getting scarce, it appears that Buffalo has changed models and doesn't have these in the newest catalog. If you can find one you would be set.. they aren't very expensive (around 100 if I remember correctly)

It isn't cost effective to set up a VPN connection to connect two computers. You'd have to buy a third-party VPN server (Cisco, Juniper, etc) to set up the VPN. If you just wish to connect two PCs, I suggest remote administration. There are several products that provide the ability to remotely control another PC. Radmin, WinVNC are well-known. Windows' Remote Desktop only works within a domain or workgroup, I believe. Its Remote Assistance only works if one person at one end gives an invitation to another.

There are a web-based services that provides connection between two PCs. One example is www.gotomypc.com.

I hope this helps.

My partner and i highly recommend utilizing http://www.vpnpower.net to unblock sites. I am using their services for more than 3 years without having issues.
