-Galilleo, Newton, Darwin - For ushering in the era of modern science.
-Mao Tse-Tung: He put an end to a long traditional way of living in the most populous country on earth.
-Christopher Columbus: Opening up the America's to western colonization.
-Frederick Taylor: Introduced modern methods of labour management to the workforce, putting an end to the dominance of the artisan in the production process.
-Ghandi: Signified the greatest victory of the anti-colonization movement.
-Voltaire: The true philosopher of the French revolution. Although he did not originate the idea of democracy, he wrote in a way that spoke to the people.
-George Washington: The first to actually take up arms against the idea of Crown rule, setting up a domino effect that would see democracies and republics raise in the Americas, Europe, and elsewhere in the world.
-Karl Marx: The idea man behind not only communism, but a lot of capitalist ideas as well. His influence on sociology and economics still can't be denied today, even by his fiercest opponents.

Note that most of these people did not "do" everything by themselves. They are, however, representative of wider social movements that changed the world. Also, I make no judgement here as to whether their influence was "bad" or "good", simply that the were influential. Also, as a westerner, I can't help but be biased - I'm sure there are a lot of people in China and India (To cite just two examples)whose influence on their societies are at least as important as those here - I just might never have heard of them.

10 is not a lot of people. Here's a list of mentions of other people I feel could easily have made that list: Hitler, Lenin, Rene Descartes, Simon Bolivar, Thomas Aquinas, Pope Urban II, Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Susan B Anthony, Alexander Graham Bell, James Watt, Louis Pasteur, Sigmund Freud, Genghis Kahn...
