It depends entirely on the Brand and Model and the method of installation of the memory the maker used. You might be able to just plug some in (empty socket), you might have to buy 2 GB, take out the 1 GB and not use it, (full but proper sockets), not be able to expand at all, or find everything soldered in. Start by looking at specs for limits on new models (if you can buy it with 4GB, then things are more hopeful) and call the maker. Get the spec for added memory and their cost then shop around if you wish.

THe cost would roughly be around the 70-80 dollars range.
Although, placing it in a notebook is much trickier than a desktop.
I would suggest you contact the manafucterer for details on the assembly and where the memory slots are located in the notebook rather than breaking apart the whole thing.

theres a lot of variables. brand, # of slots, kind of ram. the biggest problem you could run into is how many slots are currently being used. a laptop usually has 2 slots, if both are full now that means you have 2x512mb sticks. if so, you would have to buy 2x1gb sticks to update your ram by a gig. but if you have 1 stick and one open slot there is no problem. on most laptops there is a panel on the bottom of it that says memory, ram, etc. open it when the pc is off and see.

Vista X32 will comprehend as much as 3gb no remember what version, yet there's a patch so as that it will comprehend 4gb. top rate would desire to run on 1gb, with little issues. 1gb with difficulty-unfastened is plenty.

consult your laptop manufacturer, some laptop don't have 2nd RAM slot, and some motherboard system, simply can't have 2GB RAM.
its all depends on your system configuration.
