of a atx model 400 w .. with a dell power supply

ok i measure the length and width of size it will fit but i did not want to take it out of my dell t450 dimension to put in for no reason.. do you think i should give it a try.

I had the power supply set to 220 volts i think thats what happen too much by mistake should of been 115 ...but i heard alot about it being generic and also and not as good..

should i try it out?

I would say no don't do it.

A power supply is not that expensive (when compare to the cost of the damage you could do if you have got it wrong). So get one that is designed to work with your case, mainboard, etc.

My experience of Dell (which we use at work) is that their PS's tend to be underpowered

Dell sometime (most of the time really) uses their own power supply, meaning standard ATX PSU from a shop wont fit, so you may need to contact Dell for a replacement, or better still, search ebay using your model number for a replacement PSU, they sometime work out many times cheaper.

yeah you can change em out it cant hurt to try but whats the power rating of the dell one. is the dead one a home built box? if oyu have alot of drives and acards and a power hungrey cpu . the other PS may not be able to supply enough juice. run buy your local Compusa or PC club you can get a new one for 40 bucks prolly for 500 watts and dont mess with the switch on the back!

:EDIT: i wouldnt evn go through the truble of screwign it in the case jsut plug it in and see if it works first be carefull though.
