How many people/household have guns in the United States?

Question

I am looking for reliable information on how many people and/or households possess guns/firearms in the United States. I would like to find out the most recent statistics (say, after 2000). I would appreciate your help. Thank you.
(I checked the NRA site in vain).

Not me! I hate guns! guns have made the world trigger happy!I don't know how many people in the US have them but, I am sure that it is a huge number.

I'll keep looking, but the best I can remember is that at least a third of the people own firearms. I think I saw mention if it in the latest UNICRI report, although that only dealt with the European Union. I did notice something interesting--Norway and Iceland were completely excluded. They aren't members of the European Union, but should the U.N. even consider that? Doesn't that make the U.N. a lacky of the E.U.?

You have to know where to look on the NRA site. In this case, under the Insitute for Legislative Action which is separated because it isn't a nonprofit. You aren't nonprofit if you're lobbying. Sara Brady messed up once on something like that. She tried to sue the NRA and it turned out the NRA was clean but she wasn't.

You're not going to get any reliable figures because nobody knows. Because it's not a requirement to notify any agency about owning a gun, no one knows how many are out there, or where they are.
If you wanted to know how many people in China own a pair of shoes that are four years old, how would you get a reliable answer ?
Guns are just tools. How many screw-drivers are there is Germany ? How many pliers are there in Russia ?

The latest estimate I heard is that about 62 million people own about 220 million guns. No one can know for sure.
