One day, out of no where my ceiling fan and lighting complete shut off when my son went to use it. I changed the light bulbs to at least have lighting at the mean time, but did not work. Obviously it's something electrical involved... how should I proceed??

I notice that you are puzzled by this "mistery" . That tells me that you are not an electrician. Rather than "giving you a fish, I'll teach how to fish". The information that you are looking for is at: WWW. HOWSTUFFWORKS.COM. Go in and type "ceiling fans" a window will open giving you all the data that you need to figure out your problem. I also recommend you to buy this book: "Stanley Complete Wiring" sold by Home Depot or Lowe's. Remember also that SAFETY is the name of the game; make sure that all circuits are OFF before attempting any repairs. And good luck has nothing to do with it; it is just knowledge and awareness.

i'm an electrician that has put in many followers in the previous and the value relies upon on many aspects. If there's a fan rated container interior the ceiling already put in with switches interior the wall, and that's an 8 or 9 foot ceiling, a professional will charge around $one hundred or a reachable individual a pair of million/2 of that. If there are no packing bins or wiring put in approximately $4 hundred with switches, $3 hundred with distant administration no switches. If the ceiling is 20 ft. or greater it somewhat is over $1000 to do the wiring.

The first thing would be to check fuses and breakers. Then the switch, then start with the fan itself. See if you can find any obvious problem. If it still won't work, then get an electrician to check it out for you. good luck.

One last thing that popped into my mind. Someone could have wired it up to a GFI outlet for the power, see if you have any GFI's that are tripped. Start with the one in the bathroom and then you may have some in the kitchen.

If you are sure power is still getting to it, then drop the cover and find the wire nut that came loose. Safely now, go and kill the power to the fan, either the wall switch that controls it, or a breaker, before you drop ceiling plate down.

Check the switch if there is one that controls it. Then check the fuse or circuit breaker. If there are other outlets or lights not working, you probably have a fuse or breaker off. If those are not it, you may have a loose connection in the fan box.

turn off breaker....undo the cover of the fan...check to see if maybe wire nuts have worked loose or off. fan could be old and worn out....could be a defective wall switch....I would have someone who knows electricity check it out for you.......good luck
