My partner is a joiner and we are currently attempting to obtain a skilled trade visa to emigrate to Melbourne (where we lived for a while on a working holiday visa). The main worry is actually getting work once we arrive there. Is there any way anyone can advise to make contacts/try to secure work as a joiner before actually arriving in Australia? We have been told there is (obviously) a shortage of joiners in Melbourne area (especially Geelong/Torquay region) but we would just have to go there and then get a job since we will have to prove we have the visa and that my partner is ellgible to work as a joiner.

Help please please please - on any aspect of migration as well. We are using GoMatilda to help us.

G'day,

I would recommend that you might want to ask the company that you are working with, if they have any Australian contacts and start from there. If they don't have then try these jobs websites:
www.seek.com.au
www.careerone.com.au
www.mycareer.com.au

In regards to migration aspects, I am providing a link on one of the answers that discuss abt this matter as well.

Hope this helps. Good luck on your move and welcome to Australia :)

A good place to start would be the classified advertisements in The Age, Melbourne's main newspaper, on a Saturday
http://www.theage.com.au

You will be able to check what positions are available for joiners, how much in demand they are, the sort of salary you can expect and also which companies are hiring joiners. You could then write to the companies, with your qualifications and CV and perhaps get offers of employment should you come to Australia. Good luck.

Great idea and good luck but unfortunately I'm not in a position to advise.
