I did that (to someone else's ring, of course) as a kid. The mercury eventually went away, with the aid of considerable hand-rubbing. That's not recommended though, now that we know a lot more about mercury's toxicity. A jeweler may declline buffing it for the same reason, but if he does it, it should work. Otherwise, heating (only moderately, not to melt the ring; outside; not breathing near it) should speed up the mercury's departure. Meanwhile, don't wear the ring! And give/sell the rest of the mercury to a scrap metal dealer!
