Joe DiMaggio holds the major league record for the longest hitting streak with 56 straight games with a hit in 1941.

Joltin' Joe got his first hit of the streak on May 15, 1941 against the White Sox, going 1 for 4. He would get a hit in every single game the Yankees played for two months before going 0 for 3 in a game against Cleveland on July 17. DiMaggio hit .408 during his streak (91 for 223), with 15 home runs and 55 RBI.

Joe Dimaggio holds the record for the longest hitting streak with 56 straight hits in 1941, but right after that he had another steak of 17 games. So the guy was pretty good! He was with the New York Yankees at the time.

Obviusly the answer is Joe DiMaggio with a 56 game hitting streak in 1941. (And, as someone already pointed out, the day after it stopped he went on another 17 game hitting streak). Pete Rose holds the National League record at 44 games in 1978.

Joe DiMaggio also holds the Minor League hitting streak at 61 games when he played for the San Francisco Seals in 1933.

The major league record is, as noted, DiMaggio's famous 56 in 1941.

If the field is open to all baseball history, however, it is recorded that Robin Ventura, while playing collegiate ball for Oklahoma State, had a 58-game streak.

DiMaggio himself had a 61-game streak during his minor league days.

A hitting streak is when you get atleast one in a consecutive number of games.

Joe Dimaggio had a 56-game hitting streak for the Yankees in 1941. It is the longest ever. He edged out Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox, for MVP that year.

Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees still holds the MLB record at 56 straight games with at least one hit in each game.
That same year, Ted Williams hit .406, and hit more home runs, both in adverse ballparks; but Dimaggio was given the most valuable player award for hitting .356.
