Probably dust in the power supply. The fan sucks dust into it when it pulls air through to cool it. Do the following:
1. Turn everything off and unplug the computer. (You are in no danger of losing the CMOS settings unless it is very old and your CMOS battery is dead)
2. Get a can of air from a computer store
3. Open the case of your computer
4. Spray the air all over the inside to get the dust out, be sure to spray inside the slots on the power supply.
5. close the case, plug it in and turn it back on.
There is a possibility something is failing in the machine, if so you will continue to smell whatever it is you smell. If so, take it to someone knowledgeable about computer repair.

Check the power supply, if its giving off a metallic type smell I'd say something is overheating maybe from overload or just from age and dust. Explain the "smell" Depends on the smell i mean if a dead mouse is hiding in the case that's a smell! If its electrical in nature then you have an issue. Which fan or where is it located on the PC's Tower?
Yea i'd say the power suppy is going out if thats the only place you are smelling it. Do a search on ebay for a new one that matched the specs to the one you have now but you may want one with more wattage for future use. an ATX case power supply around 300watts will cost around $30.00 for a decent one and the better they are the more they will cost ya.

If the smell is chemical in nature, there could be a leaking capacitor in the motherboard, the video card or the power supply. It could be an early warning of impending failure.

If that's very new and you nonetheless have the receipt and below guarantee i might call up the keep and ask for a exchange. they might desire to grant it. i does not completely refill the refrigerator until the exchange one is in and as much as par.

you might need to replace it, it may have starting to worn out or starting to burn so might want to have it check because if your fan gives out the whole cpu will get so hot and end up melting the motherboard in the cpu
